How to cleanse + recharge your crystals..

Updated: Oct 18, 2022

Crystals often travel long distances, from source to seller, to customer. Each contact with the a crystal exposes it to energies that may be misaligned with your own. This means a crystal you have purchased will need cleansing of energies it has picked up along the way. This is best to do before using your crystal, then your crystal will work to the best of its ability.

Regularly cleansing and recharging your crystals is the only way to restore your crystal to its natural state.

5 SIMPLE WAYS TO CLEANSE AND RECHARGE YOUR CRYSTALS

1.Natural light

Natural sunlight is said to disperse any negative energy that a crystal may be holding on to. You can set your crystals out at any time to cleanse and recharge.

Place your crystals on a windowsill or in your garden.

Too much exposure to direct sunlight may weather the crystals surface and fade its colour, so make sure you return for it in the morning and not to use these method too often.

If you’re able to, place your stone directly on the ground. This will cleanse your crystal even more. Wherever you put your crystals, make sure they won’t be disturbed by wildlife or any other person.

Afterward, make sure to give your crystal a quick clean and make sure it is fully dry.

Duration: Approximately 10 to 12 hours

Use this for: most tumbled and polished crystals

Don’t use this for: Soft stones, such as celestite and selenite, that may be damaged by rain.

These stones may be left on windowsills but moved after the recommended duration.

2. Running water

Water is said to neutralize any negative energy stored inside the stone and return it back to the earth. Although natural running water like a stream is best, you can also rinse your stone under the tap. Make sure that your crystal is completely submerged. Pat dry when complete.

Duration: Approximately 1 minute per stone

Use this for: Hard stones. Water compatible crystals. Please do internet research on your crystal before submerging in water, to make sure that it is water safe.

Don’t use this for: Stones that are brittle or soft. Research suggested.

3. Sage

Sage is said to be sacred plant with many healing properties. Smudging your crystals will help clear any negative energy and restore to its natural energy.

What You will need:

-A fire-safe bowl

-A lighter or matches

-loose or bundled sage

If you are not able to smudge outdoors, make sure you’re near an open window. This will allow the smoke and negative energies to disperse.

When you’re ready, ignite the tip of the sage with the flame. Firstly make sure you have a tight grip on your crystal and move it through the smoke.

Allow the smoke to envelop the stone for about 30 seconds. If it’s been a while since your last cleansing — or you feel the stone is holding onto a lot — try smudging for an additional 30 seconds.

Duration: Approximately 30-60 seconds per crystal

Use this for: Any crystal

4. Selenite

Selenite is not only a beautiful stone to have in your collection, it is also a great tool for cleansing other stones.

Place your crystal beside, directly inside or on top of any form of Selenite. Bowls, Plates or larger forms of Selenite are particularly good as other crystals can be place on these without any issues. Your crystals will be cleansed and ready to offer healing at their full potential. Remember your Selenite will need cleansing after this. Not water safe.

Common questions

How often do I need to cleanse my stones?

The more often you use a crystal, the more energy it may hold. It is best to cleanse all of your stones at least once a month.

If an individual crystal has a more dense, heavier feel than usual, go ahead and cleanse it. You don’t have to wait a set amount of time between cleansings. Using your intuition may also be a great way to know which crystal may need an extra cleansing.

What is the best method for cleansing stones?

Find a method that feels best for you. What works best for others, may not feel right for you. Pay attention to have you feel during each method. Give them all a go and remember to have fun along the way.

How do I know when a stone is cleansed?

The crystal should feel physically and energetically lighter to the touch. Over time this feeling will become easier to detect, as you have your crystals longer and connect to them more deeper.

Remember...

Crystal healing is about self-love and self-care. When we care for our crystals, we’re caring for ourselves. We’re allowing inner healing and putting our own wellbeing first.

Taking these small measures allows us to be more mindful in our interactions with our crystals, and ultimately getting the best possible healing from each one of our amazing stones.
